Mani Ratnam’s classical picture featuring Kamal Haasan in the lead role was an epic of the film conventions as its praised well by the audience and critics too. Greatest thing is this film was awarded for many awards besides maintaining a great acheivement as it has been selected in the list of top 20 best Indian films. With great competition at the function held by IFFI at Goa nearly 1.9 million entries were received but eventually Nayagan achieved it as it is the only Tamil film to be awarded.Pictures like Mother India, Anand, Meghe Dhaka Tara, Charulatha, Sholay, Do Bhiga Zamin, Guide, Mughal e Azam, Pyasa, Bhuvan Shome, Garam Hawa, Ghatashraddha, Elipathayam, Kagaz Ke Phool, Pather Panchali, Sant Tukaram, Madhumathi, Jane Bhi Do Yaro and Nayagan were the finalists leaving many entries apart. Also it has been conclued by the Time Magazine that Nayagan is the Best Movie for the century. With many prosperous talks the greatest script and Mani Ratnam’s creativity certainly helped Kamal also to gain a lot of fame.
